Mission: To bolster a network of environmental and conservation educators, increasing their capacity to provide meaningful environmental education for the residents of the District of Columbia.
Vision: To be a model of cooperation increasing environmental literacy for youth and adults of the District of Columbia. DCEEC is an inclusive network of teachers, DC schools, environmental education providers, and supports from businesses, universities, and the political arena.
Meetings: DCEEC has general meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of every other month (starting in January), usually at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library. Our standing committees exist to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Consortium, and are tasked with the following responsibilities.
Since 1993, DCEEC has provided a communication network that enhances the abilities of its members to increase environmental knowledge and awareness in students, teachers and adults within the District.
Today, DCEEC a non-profit organization 501(c)3, continues to provide opportunities for networking, event coordination and program partnering among its members. We also facilitate professional development and educational opportunities that support required learning standards. Our member organizations also provide environmental expertise, professional development opportunities, curricula and resources, and hands-on classroom and field studies to District schools. DCEEC members - several of which are included in the DCPS Pacing Guidelines - align their programs to DCPS Standards of Learning.
